Group Structure?
Groups are structured according to the child’s age, ranging from infancy to four and enrollment is generally limited to eleven parents and their children. With the exception of the Infant groups (which is coordinated by a facilitator), each class is staffed with a trained facilitator and two teachers, all of whom are experienced professionals in the field of early childhood education. Our director and most of our teachers have been involved with Parent•Child Group for many years.
In this setting, conversation, observation and interaction allow a parent to see the world from the child’s point of view which is critical to developing strong parenting skills. Many parents have commented that as a result of their group experience, they have developed lasting friendships... and their children have, too!
What Happens?
The classes range from an hour and a half for the Infants and Mothers Only groups to two hours for the one to three year olds.
In the toddler groups, classes are structured according to a consistent schedule including:
parent-child interaction
snack time
parent discussion
Activities for children include art projects, imaginary play, reading, use of small manipulatives and physical play on large climbing equipment. Each class ends with circle time where everyone joins together for singing and rhythmic play.
